Parts of an AC servo motor

Point at a number or a part of the drawing.

1. 1Encoder

   Measures the shaft position and speed. The servo drive reads it to control the motor precisely.

2. 2Rear bearing

   Supports the rear end of the shaft.

3. 3Power and encoder connectors

   The power cable to the stator and the signal cable from the encoder both run to the servo drive.

4. 4Stator windings

   Copper coils in a laminated steel stack. The drive feeds them current to make a rotating magnetic field.

5. 5Rotor with magnets

   Permanent magnets on the rotor follow the stator’s field and turn the shaft.

6. 6Front bearing

   Carries the shaft and the load from the coupling.

7. 7Mounting flange

   Bolts the motor to the pump bell housing; the spigot centres the shaft.

8. 8Shaft

   Output shaft with a keyway; it drives the pump through the flexible coupling.
